Grayson grew fast on septic. Its 2024 comprehensive plan admits that sewer was missing until recent years, which is part of why detached houses make up 94 percent of the city's homes. The county flyer the city circulates still describes many Grayson homes as served by tanks.↗↗

Businesses in the M-1 district off Brannan Boulevard now have mains to move onto as their septic systems age, and city policy asks Gwinnett to keep extending lines, starting with the Uptown Center. It gives two choices: a certified pumper empties the tank and it is filled with sand, soil or rock, or the empty tank is removed.
