A small system that already did its homework
EPA's record lists 172 connections serving about 435 people, far more than the 148 residents the Census counts inside town limits, so the town's pipes reach past its own boundary. For a system that size, every leaking service line shows up in the well's pumping hours.↗↗
Jersey knows it. The town swapped out most of its lines and every meter, its plan credits that with saving about 200,000 gallons a year, and it still lists aging pipe to finish. What the town replaced ends at the meter, though. The line across your yard is probably as old as the house, and the median Jersey home dates to 1969.↗↗

Routing a water line on a lot that's all septic
Nobody in Jersey is on sewer, so every water line we lay shares the yard with a tank and a drain field. Georgia's septic rules set the spacing: a tank can't sit within 10 feet of a pressurized water line, and where a water line crosses or comes within 10 feet of an absorption field it has to run at least 12 inches above it.↗
Old lines were often run straight to the house without regard to where the field ended up. When we replace one, we map the tank and trenches first and pick a route that satisfies both rules, which sometimes means a longer line around the side of the house.
We also file a Georgia 811 ticket at least three business days before digging, so power and phone lines along the road are marked.↗

Walton County is building a water treatment plant at the Hard Labor Creek Reservoir, targeted to open in early 2028. Monroe Local reported in January 2026 that later phases will connect to Highway 11, Monroe-Jersey Road and Highway 138. For rural lots outside town, that may change which utility a new line ties into, so we check with both before quoting a new service.↗

Didn't the town already replace the water lines?
It replaced most of its own lines and every meter. Service lines on private property are a separate pipe, and the plan says some town lines still need replacing too.
How close can my water line be to the septic tank?
Georgia's rules keep a septic tank at least 10 feet from a pressurized water line, and a line near the absorption field must run at least 12 inches above it.
