Granite and clay: what the classifier is looking for
Rockdale sits on granite, and in places it is close to the surface. The county soil survey maps rock outcrop and shallow Ashlar soils beside the deeper Pacolet and Cecil series. A trench needs enough unsaturated soil beneath it, so shallow rock can shrink the usable area of a lot or push the design toward chambers or an alternative system.↗
