Granite under the clay: what the soil survey shows
Rockdale was named for the granite beneath its red topsoil, and the joint Newton-Rockdale soil survey bears that out. Pacolet and Cecil dominate, both with firm clay subsoils that move water slowly, while pockets of shallow soil sit over rock. A replacement field has to find enough usable depth, which is exactly what the Level 3 report measures.↗
