Two county agencies, and only one does septic
Because Fulton Public Works runs the sewer, it seems like the natural call for a septic problem too. At a 2023 town hall its director set the record straight: Public Works isn't involved in septic tanks at all; that's handled entirely by the Fulton County Board of Health.↗
The same director said most South Fulton houses built before 1980 have septic, and that some owners choose not to connect to sewer, which is fine as long as their systems are maintained. The census puts 5,017 of the city's homes in the 1970s and 3,904 in the 1960s. Tanks and fields that old have been working for four to six decades.↗↗
