Tucker became a city in 2016, so the plumbing permit now comes from City Hall rather than the county. The sewer itself is still DeKalb's.

The Tucker story

Laterals that run the wrong way

Tucker is hilly Piedmont ground, built on old igneous and metamorphic rock: schist, gneiss, migmatite and granite. Houses sit on ridges and slopes, and a gravity lateral has to follow the fall of the land. On lots that drop away behind the house, the county main can sit in a rear easement, and then the new line runs out the back rather than to the street.↗

That changes the job. A rear run can mean working around a deck, a fence line, a patio and trees that have had fifty years to grow over the pipe. It can also mean a deep exit through a basement wall. We plan access, spoil piles and restoration before we dig, because a back-yard trench is harder to hide than a front-yard one.

Smoke Rise, the residential community on Tucker's east side north of Stone Mountain, is inside the city too, so a replacement there follows the same Tucker permit path as one near downtown.↗
