Where a Cumming lateral actually goes
Flush a toilet inside the city and the water ends up at a plant on Bethelview Road. Cumming built that facility between 2006 and 2008, and it cleans wastewater with a biological process before discharging to Big Creek.↗
Most homes reach it by gravity. Where the ground or an older subdivision makes gravity mains impractical, the city laid pressurized lines instead, and each house pushes its waste into them with its own grinder pump.↗
Between the house and the city's pipe sits the part that breaks most: the lateral. City code sets its minimum size, grade and trench rules, and makes the owner pay for all of it.↗

On those streets a backup is rarely the city's problem. The shared force main in the road is Cumming's; the basin, pump, controls and the small pressure line out to the road belong to the house. Only three pump models are on the city's approved list, so a replacement has to match one of them.↗

Yours, unless the fault is in the shared force main in the road. The city owns that main; the homeowner owns and maintains the pump and the service line. Stop heavy water use and call a contractor familiar with the approved pump models.
