Laying the line
We start at the connection, not the house. Knowing the depth and location of the stub or main fixes the grade the whole line must hold. From there we set the route to avoid footings, driveways and other utilities, and set a cleanout near the right-of-way; on the Clayton side that cleanout is a CCWA requirement.↗
The ground decides the pace. On deep clay the trench goes quickly. Where the USDA maps Wilkes soil on the DeKalb side, soft weathered rock begins within two feet and harder rock can follow at forty inches or more, so the excavator works slower and the pipe needs a clean stone bed.↗
Before backfill the line is inspected as the permit requires and tested.
Henry-side jobs follow the same logic with a different owner of the public pipe. Henry County Water Authority maintains only its public sewer and sends owners to a plumber for private pipes on their land, so the new building sewer, its cleanouts and its grade are the property owner's to fund and ours to build. We confirm the authority's connection point and any inspection it wants before digging.↗
