The Flovilla story
A small well system that reaches past the city limits
Flovilla does not buy water from the county authority. It pumps its own from five wells, stores it in two above-ground tanks and delivers it to homes inside the city and in the surrounding countryside. That makes City Hall on Heard Street the first call for anything on the public side of the meter.↗
The city's last plan put meter replacement and line upgrades across the system on its work list, paid partly with community development grants. New meters and mains do not reach past the meter box, though, and on older lots the service line can be as old as the house it feeds.↗
The terrain adds a wrinkle. Much of Flovilla sits on eroded Pacolet clay on 6 to 15 percent slopes, so a leak on a hillside lot often shows up downhill from the actual break, where the water finally surfaces.↗

When a new house goes up on one of Flovilla's rural residential lots, the city sets the meter and we take it from there: trench, bed, pipe, pressure test and a clean connection where the line enters the house. On a sloping lot we lay the line below frost depth and keep it well clear of the septic tank and field.
Owners also ask us to branch a line to a detached shop, a barn hydrant or a garden spigot far from the house. Those extensions are private plumbing on your side of the meter, so the same care about depth and separation applies.
