Homes in Flovilla and around Indian Springs State Park treat wastewater in their own tanks and fields, permitted by Butts County Environmental Health. The Flovilla story
The town that used to be called Indian Springs
Before it was Flovilla, the settlement carried the name of the springs next door. It incorporated under its new name in 1885, and in 1889 the Flovilla and Indian Springs Railroad helped keep the spring resort busy. The park that grew around those springs is now one of Georgia's oldest.↗↗
Today the park covers 765 acres off Lake Clark Road, and the town is a small place of a few hundred people. What never arrived was a sewer. The city's long-range plan lists a wastewater and water capital plan among its hopes, which tells you the current state plainly.↗↗

Eroded Pacolet slopes around town
The map unit under the center of Flovilla is Pacolet sandy clay loam on 6 to 15 percent slopes, classed as severely eroded. That means the loose topsoil is largely gone and the red clay subsoil sits close to the surface. NRCS flags both slow water movement and slope as limits for a septic field here.↗
On a slope like this, trenches have to follow the contour, and a failing field often shows itself as a wet seep on the downhill side of the yard rather than a puddle over the lines.

My Flovilla house is from the early 1980s. Is the septic system near the end of its life?
It could be. The median Flovilla home was built in 1983, so many original tanks and fields are more than 40 years old. Age alone is not a death sentence, but a pump-out and inspection will show baffle, tank and field condition.
Why does my yard seep on the downhill side?
Much of Flovilla sits on severely eroded Pacolet sandy clay loam with 6 to 15 percent slopes. NRCS lists slow water movement and slope as limits for septic fields, so effluent that cannot soak in may surface downslope of the trenches.

Are homes near Indian Springs State Park on septic too?
Yes, as far as public records show. Flovilla operates water only, and the county authority's sewer work is focused on I-75. Properties along the park and Lake Clark Road should expect to have their own tank and field.
