Forsyth has been Monroe's seat since 1823, and the Monroe Railroad tied it to Macon ten years later. The town sits on a ridge, with rain running off one side toward Tobesofkee Creek and off the other toward Rum Creek, and I-75 cuts through its east side.↗↗

The 2022 joint plan says commercial land clusters inside Forsyth because the city provides commercially critical utilities like sewer access. Inside the limits versus down a county road
Forsyth has two wastewater plants. The Northeast plant on Town Creek Road discharges to Town Creek, and the South plant on Montpelier Road sits in the Tobesofkee Creek watershed. City customers inside the limits are on one or the other.↗↗
Head out toward Juliette, High Falls or Culloden and you are almost certainly on a tank. Monroe County Environmental Health, a state office on Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive, permits those systems and helps owners find a buried tank.↗

The city's own plan explains why some Forsyth faucets barely run. Its oldest mains are small galvanized pipe, now crusted inside with iron and manganese bacteria, and state rules call for 6-inch lines to supply fire hydrants. The street-side work is the city's, but a house fed through an equally old galvanized service line often needs its own replacement to feel the difference.↗
Rain is the other headache. Downtown storm sewers are undersized, and Lee Street and Blount Hill sit in low points where residents regularly report flooding. Standing water over a yard is also how cracked sewer laterals take on groundwater.↗
