The Jenkinsburg story
Built by a railroad, still waiting on a sewer
Jenkinsburg exists because William Jenkins gave the railroad a right-of-way in 1881, and the legislature chartered the town eight years later. It never grew large. The city still counts only a few hundred residents, almost all in detached houses on their own lots.↗↗
What the town does provide is water. Its public services page describes a water department that serves residents and neighbors beyond the limits, along with garbage pickup and one of the county's recycling centers. Sewer is not on the list, and the town's plan is candid that it is missing.↗↗
That leaves a straightforward situation for owners. The tank, the field and the line between them belong to you, and the county health office is the only agency that permits work on them.↗
