Why Loganville fields quit early
Across Walton County, not one acre of mapped soil earns a clean bill for septic absorption. The NRCS survey rates about 159,000 acres somewhat limited and roughly 46,000 acres, a bit over a fifth of the county, very limited. There is no not-limited class at all.↗
That matters on subdivision lots cut in the 2000s. Grading strips topsoil, heavy equipment compacts what is left, and the trenches end up bearing down on dense clay. NC State Extension notes that clogging happens in the first few inches of soil under the trench bottom, so a field on compacted ground can seal within a couple of decades.↗
Before condemning a field, we pump the tank and check the tees and distribution box. A tipped box or missing outlet tee can drown one trench while the others sit dry, and that is a much smaller repair.
