Three Monroe soils, three ways a field fails
About two miles northwest of downtown the survey turns to Lloyd clay loam, severely eroded. Lloyd units in Walton add up to roughly 26,000 acres, and every one is flagged for two septic limits at once: slow water movement and rock at about 50 inches. A trench there cannot simply be dug deeper to find better ground.↗
On the steeper sides of the ridges, the 10 to 15 percent Cecil unit carries Pacolet as its rated component, and slope is the headline limit. Effluent on a hill runs to the low end of each line, so the bottom trench saturates first while the top ones sit dry.↗
Past 15 percent the rating flips. Both Cecil units mapped on 15 to 25 percent slopes, about 4,100 acres together, rate very limited, with slope scored at the maximum. An old field cut into that grade is rarely worth rebuilding in place; relocating to a flatter bench usually is.↗
