The city's schedule has a few rules that change the math. Lots in a subdivision where taps were made during construction skip the tap fee. Businesses and mixed-use buildings pay whichever is higher, the listed fee for their meter or a charge based on expected daily flow.↗

Sewer or septic?
Converting a Madison-area tank to city sewer
A house on the edge of Madison that still uses a septic tank may have a city main closer than its owner realizes. When the system fails, Georgia's 200-foot rule generally points to connecting rather than rebuilding.↗
Farther out, Morgan County's plan notes that most unincorporated land has no sewer at all, so the question never comes up and the answer is a septic repair.↗
A conversion is really three jobs done in order: the new lateral from the house to the city tap, the connection itself, and pumping and filling the old tank so it cannot collapse later. Doing all three in one mobilization saves a second trip across the yard. In the historic core, the replacement of a worn-out lateral follows the same sequence, only without the tank, and with more attention paid to walks, hedges and roots along the route.
