Stockbridge's starting point is a ban: its code makes it unlawful to build a privy, cesspool or septic tank except as the sewer article allows. Every future building inside the corporate limits that needs sanitary service is expected to connect to public sewer.↗↗
The exceptions are narrow. A single-family home on its own lot, where the nearest sewer connection point is more than 200 feet from the property line, can ask for a waiver with public-health documentation. If the waiver and council consent come through, the tank still has to meet state design rules and may never discharge to a sewer or natural outlet.↗↗
