One line doing the work of four
A distribution box is supposed to split effluent equally among lines of equal length. On soft clay, the box settles a little each year. Once it tilts, the low outlet takes most of the flow, that one trench clogs and floods, and the others sit nearly dry. From the yard it looks like the whole field failed.↗

Home fields are sized by bedrooms and soil rate. Farm buildings, churches or small businesses outside town carry larger flows and the higher commercial permit fee. On any of them, a settled box is the cheapest fix there is, so we always open it before recommending new trenches.↗
When the box is the problem, the repair is small: dig it out, set it level on a firm base, adjust or replace the outlet fittings so each line takes its share, and let the overloaded trench rest. When the lines themselves are sealed with biomat, new trenches go into fresh soil the classifier has cleared, and the old ones are left in place. Either way, we check the tank first, because solids leaving a tank with a broken outlet tee will clog a new field just as fast as the old one.

Often, if usable soil sits above it. GNR may ask for an engineered plan that maps the flood hazard and nearby water.
