Is Tyrone, GA on sewer or septic?
Mostly septic. Tyrone's town sewer covers a limited area along the SR 74 North corridor, treated under contract by Fulton County. Everywhere else, homes use septic systems permitted by Fayette County Environmental Health. New septic homes need at least an acre, and more inside groundwater recharge areas.↗↗↗

Fayette County's plan describes Tyrone's sewer as limited service in the SR 74 North corridor, started through a contract with Fairburn and later expanded with capacity from Fulton County. The town's own rate notice names Fulton County as its contracted treatment provider. The rest of Tyrone was built on septic and still runs on it.↗↗
Tyrone measures sewer access in its own way: a public line within 250 feet that the building can reach by gravity. New buildings inside that reach must tie in before they get a certificate of occupancy. The bigger surprise is for existing homes, covered below.↗

Tyrone's rule when a septic system fails near sewer
Most places let you repair a failing system and connect later. Tyrone doesn't, once sewer is close. If a gravity-reachable public line sits within 250 feet and the septic system fails, the code ends its use: no permit for maintenance or repair, and the building must connect. The abandoned tank is then removed or filled.↗
For homes out in the town's rural stretches this never comes up, and a normal repair permit through Fayette County Environmental Health is the path. Near the corridor, though, the first question we ask on a failing system is how far the nearest main is, because that decides whether you're buying a repair or a connection.↗

A young housing stock on old farm ground
The General Assembly made Tyrone a town in 1911, but its houses are recent. The median home dates to 2000, the biggest single decade is the 2000s with 931 homes, and the Census Bureau counts none built before the 1960s. Tyrone's septic systems are mostly fifteen to thirty-five years old, the age when neglected tanks start sending solids into fields.↗↗
The town sits in the northwest corner of Fayette, with Peachtree City to the south, Fulton County to the north and Coweta across Line Creek. SR 74, the Joel Cowan Parkway, runs five miles up to I-85 at Fairburn, and that road is where the sewer went.↗
The town itself encourages owners to pump and inspect. Its environmental page carries septic pollution-prevention tips and a 'get pumped' reminder, and sends onsite inspections to Fayette County Environmental Health.↗

USDA maps well-drained Cecil sandy loam at the center and north of town and Madison sandy loam to the south, all rated somewhat limited for absorption fields. That's workable ground when a field is sized right. Low spots along Tyrone's many creeks are where fields struggle.↗
